The Playboy magazine founder paid US$1.1 million (NZ$1.5 million) for 29-room home and was allowed to remain there when it sold in 2016 for a record-breaking US$100 million (NZ$139 million) to private equity boss Daren Metropoulos. Much has been said about what went on behind the grand front gates of the notorious Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles, where Hugh Hefner lived from 1971 until his death on Thursday, aged 91.
